Grubhub is taking a measured approach to integrating Eat24 into its system. Given the scale and scope of both companies, slow and steady is probably the best approach.

Well-known chain restaurants like Chili's have become known for giant menus. Everyone will be happier with streamlined offerings, including those concerned about the companies' bottom lines.

Service-driven companies, like Grubhub, keep masquerading as technology or discovery platforms because current employment regulations haven't kept up with the rise of the gig economy. This helps no one.

With several other restaurant-facing product offerings, Eat24 was the one that didn't fit into the Yelp puzzle. By ceding delivery to former rival, Grubhub, Yelp is free to focus on the other parts of its business that certainly benefit from its robust consumer network.

At the outset, there's not much difference between this pilot and ordering GrubHub from your phone or computer as you normally would at home. However, if Hyatt Centric can make the program more seamless and integrate it into part of the hotel food-and-beverage experience, this pilot could point to the future of hotel room service.
